Gov. Brewer honors Tucson non-profit for work with veterans

July 9, 2014

TUCSON, Ariz. – National Community Health Partners, a 501 (c) 3 organization headquartered in Tucson, was congratulated by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Wednesday and honored with a Certificate of Recognition for its work with homeless veterans.

NCHP’s ‘National Community Housing’ program works closely with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in Yuma and Pinal counties to find housing and provide other supportive services for homeless veterans, veterans at risk of becoming homeless and their families.

Chief Executive Officer Albert Moreno credits the success of the project to the tireless efforts of his staff and overwhelming cooperation of organizations and businesses in the communities, as well as the VA Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. “We have really dedicated, hardworking groups of people in Yuma and Pinal trying to get the word out and get these vets the services they need. And we couldn’t ask for better support from the communities and the VA itself,” said Moreno.

NCHP’s case managers and outreach workers operate out of offices in Casa Grande and Yuma providing services such as helping veterans procure the healthcare services to which they are entitled and providing temporary housing assistance until they are able to support their own housing needs. “Most veterans are used to hard work. Sometimes they just need a little extra help getting over a rough patch or transitioning to civilian life,” Moreno said.
