Veterans Housing Program

A Little Hero Comes Home

a photo of the Green family moments after the birth of Kevin Green Jr.Sonny and May brought their new son— Kevin Green, Jr, home on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Moving the Greens into their new home is a success story made possible by the VA Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program under a grant administered by NCHP in Yuma County.

Sonny is an Army veteran who served in the conflict in Panama. The Greens had been living in a homeless shelter since the end of July, and were referred to NCHP by the Cross Roads Mission on August 14th. As May was 9 months pregnant with their first child, NCHP moved rapidly to identify possible housing locations. Kevin arrived on August 17th, before their housing was available. NCHP transported them to emergency housing the next day and later transported them to their new home.

This success story is just one of many as staff in Pinal and Yuma counties seek out Veterans to insure they have safe, habitable, and affordable housing for their families.
